Durham can bounce back from bad first day, says debutant Nathan Rimmington

Jon Lewis’s men were bowled out for 91 in the first innings at the Emirates Riverside, but debutant Rimmington led a response with a haul of 3-39 to dismiss Kent for 169, a lead for the visitors of 78.

Aiden Markram was out for the second time in the match for a duck, leaving the home side facing a massive challenge to turn the contest in their favour.

Rimmington said: “We’re in a decent position if we can bat well (in the second innings).

“I think it nipped around first session.

“I don’t think it was an all-out 90 wicket.”

Asked about his bowling, the 35-year-old Australian replied: “Not too bad. I went to sleep last night dreaming about bowling outswingers and nicking blokes off.

“But, the way the game turned out, the stumps came into the game more and it was reversing a little bit.

“Certainly it’s not what I expected, but I was lucky enough to call on all my skills.

“I thought it was nipping around early. I think it did get lower and slower as the day went on and that style of bowling suits me with the keeper up and bringing the stumps into play.

“You look at their guys, they’ve been bowled out cheaply last week and today as well.

“There might be a few demons for their boys and any chase will be tricky.”
