In the only game to beat last week’s rain, man of the match Lee Westgarth had a day to remember, firing a clinical hat-trick to inspire the visitors.

Shaun Jackson and Gary O’Neil also got in on the act against a Bishops side whose star performer was keeper Craig Foster.

The win took Wheatley back above Durham City Reserves into pole position, clear by two points, with three games to go.

The title favourites are Hall Farm Glasshus, though, as they only trail Wheatley by four points but have three matches in hand.

The Sunderland side will try again to stage their Durham County Minor Cup semi-final against Felling Magpies, at Leyburn Grove in Houghton, tomorrow (1.30pm).

The other semi-final, between Shildon Railway and Stockton West End A was also postponed and they have rearranged for tomorrow.
