Man of the match Martin Hope’s well-taken double won the day for the Sunderland side, who moved two points above Wheatley Hill WMC and still have a game in hand on their title rivals.

Ben Joyeux stood out for fourth-placed City, in their penultimate league match.

Hall Farm – with just four league games to play – are in League Challenge Cup action at Billingham on Saturday before hosting Bishop Auckland Reserves in the league at Leyburn Grove on Wednesday (7.30pm).

Wheatley Hill WMC made it two wins out of two in their League Challenge Cup section.

Man of the match Lee Westgarth shone with a clinical hat-trick as Wheatley secured 3-1 Group Two success at Blackhill & Ebchester.

Stephen Agnew notched for Blackhill, whose star man was keeper Grant Scott.

In the other Group Two tie, Bishop Auckland Reserves secured a 1-1 draw at West Auckland Tunns.

Star man Kevin Hallimond notched for Tunns, with Jonathon Brown replying. Bishops’ top performer was keeper Craig Foster.

Wheatley top the group on six points from two games, with Bishops on four and West Auckland on one.

This weekend, Wheatley Hill visit Bishop Auckland Reserves and Blackhill entertain Tunns.
