A DAD punched his pregnant girlfriend after a drunken row at a Christening.

Kevin Partland joined his partner at the celebration after watching Sunderland beat Newcastle 2-1 in the pub last month.

But 10 minutes after arriving, he commented on another woman, saying he would sleep with her.

Peterlee Magistrates’ Court was told his partner initially ignored the comments
because he was drunk, but
the couple later started to argue and Partland hit out, punching his victim on the jaw.

She told police: “In future, I want to be away from Kevin.

“He has no right to punch me.

“He did this because he was drunk and was in a mood because I spoke to that lass he was trying to get off with.”

Partland, 41, of Galloway Road, Peterlee, but bailed to an address in Watling Avenue, Westlea, Seaham, admitted assault by beating. The
court was told attack was the fifth time the victim
had called police over Partland.

Mike Simpson, mitigating, said the fall-out between the two had been fuelled by alcohol on both sides, with the five-month pregnant victim drinking three or four pints at the Christening.

He added the victim had since approached police asking for the prosecution to be dropped so they could be a family again.

Mr Simpson added: “He accepts he was wrong and has no excuse for having done that.

“It’s accepted that this would not have happened
if the pair of them had not been drinking in the first place.”

Magistrates asked for reports before they sentence him on December 19.

Partland has been given conditional bail until that date.
