The A688 will be closed to both east and westbound traffic between the roundabout, near Spennymoor, and Metal Bridge from Thursday, March 30 to Saturday, April 1.

The closures, which will be in place between 7pm and 6am each day, will enable Durham County Council to carry out the final stages of the 12-week scheme, which is currently on

track to be completed one week ahead of schedule.

A sign-posted diversion will be in place, taking motorists via the A167 to Rushyford, the A689 to the Sands Hall roundabout at Sedgefield and then the A177 to Tursdale and vice

versa.

Businesses in the area will remain open as normal, with temporary parking available in the layby to the east of the southbound carriageway approaching Thinford roundabout.

John Reed, the council’s head of technical services, said: “We would like to thank motorists for their patience while this scheme has been ongoing.”
