Driver taken to hospital after Sunderland crash

A driver is recovering after being cut free from his car and taken to hospital.

The male driver was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital as a precautionary measure after firefighters had to cut him free from his vehicle after a smash between an Audi and a Renault in Elmwood Avenue, Marley Pots.

Firecrews from Marley Park and Sunderland Central were called to the accident at around 10.30 this morning.

A firefighter from Marley Park said: "We had to cut the man free because he was wedged at one side. He couldn't get out of the driver's side and the other side had taken the impact of the accident. His injuries were superficial and he was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure."
