Driver taken to hospital after HGV rolls onto its side

A driver had to be taken to hospital after the HGV he was in control of ended up on its side.

Fire crews from Washington, South Shields and Hebburn stations were called out to Follingsby Lane, in Gateshead, near Washington, at 1.30am today, following a crash.

The HGV had rolled and ended up on its side in a ditch.

The driver had to be cut free from the cab by officers before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.

He is not believed to have been seriously injured but was left severely bruised.

The HGV was written off in the incident.
