Driver freed after police car crash

A WOMAN was cut free from her vehicle after it was involved in a crash with a police car on patrol.

The accident happened in North Moor Lane, Plains Farm, at 10pm yesterday, when the Citroen C3 and a Vauxhall Astra being driven by a Northumbria Police officer collided.

Firefighters freed the woman, aged in her 50s.

She was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria suffering from spinal injuries.

An investigation is ongoing into the crash’s cause.
