Driver cut free from car

A DRIVER had to be cut out of their car after a rush hour crash.

Firefighters had to remove the roof of a Corsa after an accident with a Ford Fiesta at 5pm today.

The driver was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, with suspected lower back, pelvis and neck injuries.

The incident happened at Parsons Road, Washington.

Two passengers and the driver of the Fiesta managed to get out before the arrival of firefighters.

They were treated at the roadside by paramedics and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a precaution.
