The USA Under-20 international has been in fine form during the current campaign scoring five goals in ten appearances in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League, while also breaking into the first team.

He made his competitive debut in the 6-3 Capital One Cup win over Exeter City, back when Dick Advocaat was in charge.

Gooch's loan stint at Rovers is his second loan spell following a spell with Vanarama Conference side Gateshead last season.

"He comes with the good reputation from those at Sunderland and Kevin Ball, who I know well, doesn't suffer fools gladly," said Rovers boss Darren Ferguson said.

"Kevin wouldn't have anyone with a bad attitude up there so we know we're going to get the work ethic out of him.

"That's an important thing for us.

"Lynden is a striker who can play anywhere across the front.

"He can play off both feet, he's got good pace.

"We think he's going to be a good addition for us.

"He's been on the radar for a while now. We enquired a while ago but I think he was with Sunderland's first team.

"We enquired again and they were quite keen on him coming to us.

"We're delighted to get him in. It's a position I've been looking to fill and given the injured we got against Gillingham, I felt the need to do it."

The 20-year-old could make his Doncaster debut when Darren Ferguson’s side travel to Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

He is expected to be the first of several of the Under-21 side to head out on loan in order to get competitive football, with Sam Allardyce keen for his younger players to develop in the league.
