Don’t fall victim to car crime

Have your say

MOTORISTS are being urged not to leave valuables on display in their vehicles after a spate of thefts.

Thieves have snatched sat navs, mobile phones and other valuables left on show in empty cars across the city in recent months.

Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Musgrove said: “Having your car broken into is not just an inconvenience but can be a great expense and, unfortunately, a valuable item left lying on the seat makes it an easy target for thieves.

“Between April and December last year there were 328 fewer thefts from motor vehicles across Sunderland. By hiding valuable items, or even better, not leaving them in the car in the first place, people can help us reduce that even further.

“We are not letting car thieves rest on their laurels and will continue to take action to make sure they’re caught and put before the courts.”
