Lifeboats raced to rescue a dog after it jumped into the North Sea at Seaham.

The Bull Terrier plunged off North Pier into the water but could not get back to safety.

A 999 call was made to Humber Coastguard at 12.50pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Coastguard said: “The male and female owners of the dog were very worried so we dispatched a lifeboat from Sunderland and Seaham Coastguard Rescue Team.”

The dog, called Roxy, managed to get herself out of the water onto nearby rocks where she was rescued from.
