A DOG plunged more than 30 feet to its death after being attacked by another dog on a cliff top.

Coastguards were called at about 9.45am on Saturday to Whitburn Coast Park, after the six-year-old Dalmatian bitch fell into a rocky cove.

The animal’s body was recovered by a cliff team from Sunderland and handed back to its owner.

Coastguard rescue officer Neil Mearns said: “Although accidents such as these are all too common when owners walk their dogs off the lead near cliff tops, the circumstances here are quite different. It appears that two Dalmatians were being exercised a considerable distance from the cliffs, when one took fright after being attacked by an Alsatian.”
