'Distressed parrot' sets up home in Sunderland street

Neighbours are concerned over a distressed tropical bird, believed to be a parrot, which has been living wild in a Sunderland street.

The bird has been spotted in the area of the ABC streets behind Westlands, Barnes, for the past three weeks.

Nichola Heatlie said the animal has been outside her home since May 15 and appears to be distressed.

"I wish someone would help this parrot," she said; "It's mastered fluent crow and fluent seagull - tt shouts at them when near, so its pretty clever.

"The weather (has been) cold though, so can't be doing it any good."

She added: "It's always in the same place back of my block on the Westlands it's the back lane that is shared by Ewesley Road and Abingdon Street."
