WILDLIFE fans can learn more about the life of bats in Sunderland at a special event next week.

The Durham Wildlife Trust is holding a guided bat walk at Hylton Dene to give Wearsiders an insight into the fascinating flying mammals.

The event takes place on the evening of Tuesday September 9.

Maurice Bates from the Trust said: “We’ll have a stroll along the dene and then in the castle grounds to see what bats are about.”

The dene is home to pipistrelle bats, but Maurice said the Daubenton’s species can also be found in the area.

The walk sets off at 7pm and finishes at about 9pm.
