Delivery driver left shaken after van stolen in Sunderland

A delivery man has been left shaken after his van was stolen in front of him.

It happened at 3.43pm yesterday when an offender approached a delivery van driver in Dene View Crescent before making off with his van in the direction of South Hylton.

The driver was left shaken by the incident but uninjured.

The van was later found abandoned in Biddick Village Centre, Washington.

The offender is described as a white man aged in his 30s, around 5ft 6inches tall, of medium build and was wearing three-quarter length jeans.

Detective Inspector Paul Stewart said: “Enquiries into the robbery are ongoing and we appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have seen a man with a white van acting suspiciously in the Washington area to contact police straight away.

“We have officers in the area carrying out enquiries and offering reassurance to residents.”
