Delight after second Sunderland Echo Pub of the Year Award win
A popular pub owner who describes his staff and customers as '˜one big family' is delighted to scoop his second Sunderland Echo Pub of the Year Award.
The Dolphin on Ashdown Road, Farringdon, has once again taken home the sought-after accolade after it was voted as the top pub on Wearside by loyal punters.
Owner Kelvin Lamb said he was delighted to win the award and thanked his eight staff and customers for their support.
“It is really nice to win the award again,” he said.
“Everybody in here is like one big family.
“It is a community pub where everyone sticks together, so it is really nice of the customers to vote for us and it is great to be recognised.”
Mr Lamb has been owner of the pub for the last 23 years and boasts an impressive 33 years in the pub industry. He puts the success of The Dolphin down to its strong links with the community, with customers aged between 18 to 90 years old.
“The pub has been here since the 1960’s,” Mr Lamb added.
“It is a real community pub that sees a mix of ages come along - from grandads to their grandsons - it keeps everyone together.
“We do a lot of charity work and events as well as sponsoring two football teams, a darts team and two pool teams.
“I want to thank all of our customers and staff who have helped us win this award.”
