Delays reported after car crashes into A19 central reservation

Drivers have experienced delays this afternoon after a car crashed into the central reservation of the A19.

The incident took place on the A19 northbound, and lane two was blocked at the junction with Chester Road, Sunderland (A183).

The delays stretched back past the junction with Durham Road (A690).

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At 3.30pm, police were informed about a one-vehicle collision on the A19 northbound, near the A183 roundabout.

"The reason is yet to be established. The vehicle collided with the central reservation.

"The car has since been removed from the road, and will be recovered shortly.

"It did not appear anyone was injured."
