Dealer pays cash for crime

A CONVICTED drug dealer has been ordered to stump up more than £2,300 of ill-gotten gains.

John Ross Langan, 21, of Brookland Road, High Barnes, was put behind bars in January for four years.

He had previously admitted being in possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply at a hearing on November 24.

Langan has now been ordered to pay back £2,362 at a confiscation hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.

The confiscation order was applied for after Sunderland financial investigators launched an inquiry under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Confiscation orders have provided police with an extra measure to stop criminals in their tracks by taking the cash out of crime.

Last year saw some of the cash seized from crime put back into the community after the public nominated groups to receive a share of the fund.

Washington Wetland Centre received a £13,000 cash boost to improve the security of the car park.
