THE Capital One Cup may not be the only first prize Sunderland AFC fans clinch this week.

Scores of supporters are backing a campaign to get adopted Black Cats anthem Things Can Only Get Better, by D:Ream, a top spot in the Official Top 40 Singles Chart.

The song has become an adopted tune for SAFC fans since the end of 2013, being sung at both home and away games to support head coach Gus Poyet’s men.

Online forms and petitions are aiming to get the track, which spent four weeks at number one in 1994, up the UK charts.

It’s position in will be announced a few hours after the Capital One Cup final tie against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

D:Ream member Al Mackenzie noticed the campaign online.

“It is all a bit surreal,” he said.

“But Things Can Only Get Better is a positive song, and to be fair it seems to have stood the test of time.

“It works for SAFC then I am delight.”

“I will be watching the Cup final; I would have been watching it anyway.

“I think it’s going to be difficult for Sunderland, but I think they can do it.”
