Cyclist injured after colliding with Sunderland bus

A CYCLIST was taken to hospital with head injuries after a collision with a bus in Sunderland.

The man had been riding along Keir Hardie Way, close to the Stadium of Light, when the accident happened.

Police closed a section of the road following reports of the collision at 10.40am on Saturday.

The single decker bus was not carrying any passengers at the time.

The 37-year-old injured man was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where his condition is believed to be life threatening.

The road was expected to reopen in time for the 3pm kick off of the clash between Sunderland and Arsenal at the Stadium of Light.
