Cyclist in hospital after car accident in Houghton

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a collision betweeen a cyclist and a car in Houghton.

The collision happened on Coaley Lane / Sedgeletch Road and the crossroads junction with Blind Lane at around 7am this morning between a Renault Megane and cyclist.

The car was travelling from West to East along Blind Lane and the cyclist was travelling North to South along Coaley Road towards Sedgeletch Road when they collided.

The cyclist, a 46 year old man, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries.

His condition is described as stable and not life threatening. One lane of the road was closed for a period while the casualty was being dealt with and following a scene investigation the road was re-opened.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 166 of 27/03/14 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, for the attention of the officer in charge (OIC) PC 8028 Davison of Motor Patrols South.
