A CYCLE hub at the National Glass Centre featuring bike storage and a picnic area has been given planning approval.

As previously reported in the Echo, Sunderland University had submitted plans to build the new facility in time for the 20th anniversary this summer of the Coast2Coast cycle ride.

The proposals include a picnic area with fixed seating, a repair stand, pump, cycle stands and vertical lockers, to the south west corner of the main building, just off the riverside boulevard.

Plans also include a cycle port, in the shape of a car, in one of the existing parking bays, to separate bikes from other vehicles.
