Women arrested after becoming stuck on Sunderland Bridge

TWO women have been arrested after they had to be rescued from Wearmouth Bridge in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the bridge at 5.30am to reports that two women were stuck on the bridge.

Firefighters from Sunderland Central and Fulwell fire stations pulled the women, aged 18 and 25, to safety.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 5.30am on Wednesday, October 1, we received a report two women had climbed onto the Wearmouth Bridge and were stuck.

“The fire and rescue service attended and the women were taken down safely.

“Two women, aged 18 and 25 have been arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and are in police custody.”
