Woman suffers serious injuries in Sunderland cemetery dog attack

A DANGEROUS dog is on the loose after it attacked a woman in a Sunderland cemetery causing horrific injuries to both her hands.

The dog – described as a black Alsatian with a bushy tail – struck in the cemetery of Holy Trinity Church in Southwick.

The victim was approached by the dog at 7.45pm on Monday as she was walking towards the path of Northern Way.

The dog – which was not wearing a collar and appeared to be on its own – jumped up at the woman. And as she put her hands out to protect herself she suffered serious injuries to both of them and was taken to hospital.

The dog ran off down an alleyway between the back of James Street and Southwick Primary School field.

Police are appealing for the owners of the dog, or anyone with information, to get in contact on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 531 of 300614 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
