A MAN has been denied bail after appearing in court for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a knife in their Washington home.

Marc Stephen Harbison told the court he preferred to be referred to as Marc Wilson, and entered no plea to a charge of assault when he appeared from custody at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

The 28-year-old, previously of Trafalgar Road, Sulgrave, Washington, is accused of the unlawful and malicious wounding of Nicola Walker, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Prosecutor Paul Anderson said Miss Walker suffered a slash wound to the face in the alleged assault.

She needed 22 stitches and may need plastic surgery.

Geoffrey Forrester, defending Wilson, asked that his client be granted bail on the condition that he resides at his mother’s address in North Tyneside.

However, District Judge Helen Cousins said she would remand him in custody until he appears at Newcastle Crown Court on April 23.
