Woman in hospital after attack in her own home

A 61-YEAR-OLD woman was floored in an attack in her own home.

The incident happened when the victim answered a knock at her door in Hendon Close at about 6pm yesterday.

A young woman entered the hallway and an altercation took place. The resident fell to the ground. The young woman then left.

An ambulance was called and the resident was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital where she was kept in with injuries to her hip, shoulder and back.

The woman who was at the door is described as tall with dark hair in a pony tail and dressed all in black.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional neighbourhood officers are on patrol to reassure the community.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact police.

Also anyone who recognises the woman from the description is asked to contact officers.
