Woman ‘bundled into car’ in Sunderland

A man has been arrested after reports of a woman being bundled into a car in Sunderland.

Police were called to Silksworth Way in Sunderland at 4.43am, today, after concerns were raised for a woman.

Officers found a woman had been bundled into a car.

Inquiries led them to an address in Flighters Place in Sunderland where they found a 27-year-old woman with injuries.

She was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment. Her condition is described as stable.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police believe the man and woman are known to each other.

Acting Detective Sergeant Natalie Robson said: “We know that local residents may be feeling concerned that this incident has taken place, however we do want to reassure people that this is a most unusual occurrence.

“We have additional uniformed officers on duty in the area to speak to residents and anyone with concerns is asked to talk to an officer about this matter.”

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact them.
