A man is seriously ill in hospital after being stabbed in an attack in Sunderland.
Police were called to Rawmarsh Road, Red House, at 4.35am today, after reports of a man being stabbed.
The 35-year-old victim was taken to hospital with several cuts to his arm and head.
A 34-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation.
It is believed the victim may have initially been injured in an incident in a small block of flats in nearby Rockingham Square and attempted to get help from neighbours before making his way to Rawmarsh Road.
He is described as being in a serious but stable condition.
It is believed a car was seen in the area at the time of the attack.
