A WOMAN has appeared in court accused of a potentially deadly arson attack at her own home.

Irene Hannah Bulmer is accused of torching the house in Silksworth, Sunderland.

The 54-year-old was remanded in custody after a short hearing at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court, which took place yesterday.

She is alleged to have set fire to the house in Quarry Road, with intent to endanger the life of Peter Bulmer, who is believed to be her son.

The incident happened at about 11.30pm on Sunday. The intensity of the blaze blew out windows in the semi-detached home.

Bulmer, whose address was given as Quarry Road, will appear at Newcastle Crown Court later this month.

l A 31-year-old man who was also arrested at the time has now been released without charge by police.
