A WIFE who forged her husband’s signature to take out a mortgage increase has been spared jail.

Mairianne Smithson took out an extra £20,000 loan on a flat in Washington in 2006, which was the estranged couple’s matrimonial home.

Newcastle Crown Court heard her husband did not find out until four years later.

The 56-year-old, of Moule Close, Newton Aycliffe, admitted obtaining a money transfer by deception.

She was given 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
