TOOLS were among items stolen in a spate of shed burglaries.

Overnight between Saturday and Sunday, thieves broke into five sheds in Beckenham Avenue, Ravensbourne Avenue and Belle Vue Villas, East Boldon.

Also taken were a child’s mountain bike and £2,000-worth of scrap piping and water cylinders. A shed was also burgled in Ashby Villas overnight between May 2 and 3, where a silver Claud Butler bike was stolen.

Police are not ruling out the possibility the crimes may be linked.

Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Hudson said: “We are carrying out extra patrols in the areas that have been targeted and have been speaking with residents about the importance of shed security.

“It’s important that if you store equipment inside your garage or garden shed that you fit adequate security measures to help keep thieves out.

“Make sure that they are locked.”
