The victim of an assault in Sunderland was taken to hospital with stab wounds following an attack at the weekend.

A 37-year-old man was rushed to hospital after the assault, which is believed to have followed a disagreement between a number of people who were known to each other.

Northumbria Police was alerted by the North East Ambulance Service to an incident at an address on Roker Avenue shortly after 7.15pm on Sunday, November 1.

The victim was found with injuries to his side consistent with a stabbing. He was taken to hospital and his injuries are not deemed to be life-threatening.

The disturbance is believed to have started outside the address and continued inside.

Officers also want any witnesses or anyone who was passing through the area at the time to check their dashcam footage and come forward.

Detective Sergeant Gaye Martin said: “This is clearly a serious incident that has resulted in a man being taken to hospital with suspected stab wounds.

“We are determined to find out the circumstances surrounding the assault and ultimately ensure anyone responsible is brought to justice.

“We believe a disturbance has started initially outside the address between a group of individuals, and we are now asking anyone who was walking down the road or passing in a vehicle to get in touch.

“Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could prove the crucial link in our ongoing investigation.”

Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and offer any reassurance.
