A SUSPECTED stolen car was destroyed by fire after it was dumped near a railway line.
Firefighters from Seaham were called to an embankment close to Alfred Street in the town at 12.20am today after the vehicle was spotted ablaze, with hose reels and water used to put out the fire.
The vehicle was damaged so severely by the heat, they were unable to tell whether it was a Ford Focus or a Ford Mondeo.
Police also attended the scene and investigations are under way in to the incident.
The emergency services believe the car was stolen because of the way and location where it had been left.
