THOUSANDS of pounds of copper has been stolen in Washington.

At about 3.15pm on Friday, thieves broke into the Buffalo Power Services Unit at Bentall Business Park, Glover, and stole two tonnes of copper piping.

A white van was used during the break-in and it is believed two men were responsible.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Stewart said: “We’re carrying out enquiries to trace the two men responsible, this includes checking CCTV footage of the area.

“Someone must know where this large amount of stolen cable is being stored.”
