TWO men have appeared in court after a robbery at Sunderland newsagents.

The pair were arrested after News 2000 in Roker Avenue was raided by two men, one armed with a pair of scissors.

Gamiel Adam Hasan, 20, of no fixed abode and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with robbery.

Hasan is also accused of threatening someone with a bladed article.

Prosecutor Stan Sudworth told the court that £8 was stolen during the incident on March 9.

The two were not asked to enter pleas to the charges, which must be dealt with at crown court.

The teenager was bailed to the care of the local authority.

Magistrates are still to decide whether Hasan is to be released before a hearing at crown court.

A third person arrested in connection with the robbery, a man aged 18, has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The accused are expected to appear at Newcastle Crown Court in the week commencing March 27.
