Two arrested over Sunderland street attack released as seriously injured man remains in hospital

Northumbria Police believe he sustained his injuries in an incident in Pretoria Square in Plains Farm before heading to a house in Helvellyn Road in Grangetown.

Emergency Services were first called to the house at around 10.40am, with neighbours telling the Echo how they saw a large police presence and paramedics at the home for several hours after the alarm was raised.

It has since said the woman has been released under investigation, while the man has been released on bail, as inquiries continue into the circumstances of the suspected assault.

The North East Ambulance Service said it sent four resources to the scene, including the air ambulance, and took two patients to hospital.

No details have been released about the second person injured in the incident.

Police have asked anyone with information which could help with inquiries to call 101, quoting log number 379 15-03-2020, while details can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
