Trial doubt over Huntley accused

Have your say

A PRISONER accused of attempting to kill Ian Huntley may not be fit to face trial.

Soham murderer Huntley’s throat was slashed with a makeshift knife in the kitchen at HMP Frankland, Durham, in March last year.

Psychologists and psychiatrists are considering whether armed robber Damien Fowkes, 35, is mentally fit to enter pleas to charges of attempted murder and wounding with intent.

Fowkes is also accused of the murder of a fellow inmate, in Full Sutton prison, near York, in February,

He appeared before Newcastle Crown Court via a video link from Wakefield Prison.
