Two adults and a child escaped uninjured following an arson attack at a Washington house.
Northumbria Police are appealing for information after a house was set on fire.
A spokesman for the force, said: "The fire happened at 1.30am this morning in Bamburgh Close in Oxclose.
"It's believed the fire was started deliberately and was started after an accelerant was put through the letter box."
He said all the three people in the house at the time managed to escape uninjured.
The fire is being treated as arson and police are appealing for witnesses.
