Three arrests as victim taken to hospital in wake of Sunderland city centre assault

Three men have been arrested after a fight broke out in Sunderland city centre which left another man unconscious in the street.

Now detectives investigating the fight, which happened in Vine Place, have now released a picture of a man they would like to trace.

Shortly after 4am on Wednesday, March 11, officers were called to Vine Place following a report that a group of men were fighting in the street.

A 43-year-old man, who had suffered serious injuries to his head and face, was found unconscious in the street by police officers .

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a non-life threatening condition.

An investigation was launched into the incident which happened outside Jungle Bar and officers have since identified a number of individuals believed to have been involved.

Two men, aged 27 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

All three have been released on police bail.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “As part of their inquiries, detectives have now released an image of a man they would like to trace.

“He was in the area at the time of the incident and could have key information that can assist with the ongoing investigation.

“The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to call 101 quoting reference 94 110320 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, you can email [email protected].”
