Thousands stolen in Sunderland street robbery

THIEVES are believed to have robbed thousands of pounds from a man in a city street.

Two men are said to have stolen money from the man in Haddon Road, in Grangetown, just after midday today.

Road blocks have been set up by police to try and find the offenders, who are thought to have made off in a car.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the crime to come forward.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At 12.09pm on Monday we received a report that a man had been robbed in Haddon Road, in Sunderland.

“The offenders have taken a large amount of cash.

“At this stage, we think there two offenders and that they might have fled the scene in a car.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing and we have a number of officers in the area and are appealing for anyone who has in Halidon Road and who might have seen anything to contact us as soon as possible on the non-emergency 101 line.”
