A THIRSTY thief landed himself in court after stealing £2 worth of energy drinks from Poundworld.

Liam Beveridge, 21, was in the Sunderland branch on October 16 when he took two cans of Monster, Sunderland magistrates heard.

“He said he’d gone into the store with the intention of taking the Monster energy drink without paying,” prosecutor Glenda Beck said. “He wasn’t going to give it back as his intention was to drink it.”

Beveridge, of Swan Lodge, admitted two counts of theft – he had also taken speakers, worth £150, from PC World – and breaching a conditional discharge.

Tom Morgan, mitigating, said Beveridge suffers from a stammer, which has knocked his confidence.

“His difficulty with speech is causing him difficulty in getting employment, which is causing him a great deal of problems.”

Beveridge was sentenced to a 12-month supervision order, and a ‘thinking skills’ course.
