Thieves steal airguns in Sunderland house raid

POLICE are appealing for information after two air rifles were stolen during a house burglary.

Thieves gained entry to the address, on Cricklewood Road, Hylton Castle, between 9pm, on Thursday, June 27 and 3am, on Friday, June 28.

They made off with the two air rifles: a 410 Carbine and a Weihrauch HW100. One was stored in a green coloured bag and the other in a camouflage bag. The air rifles were unloaded and no ammunition was stolen with them.

Enquiries are underway and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Neighbourhood Inspector Tony Carty said: “There is no suggestion of any danger to the public in relation to the stolen air rifles.

“However, we understand this may cause concern and I’d like to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to locate them and trace those responsible for this burglary.

“I’d urge anyone with any information on the burglary or who may know the whereabouts of the stolen items to come forward.”
