A shoplifter has been ordered to get clean after admitting three thefts.

Francis Brannan, 39, stole meat and perfume from Aldi, Tesco and Debenhams in April and May.

On each occasion he was apprehended by staff who recovered the goods, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Brannan, of Neville Road, Millfield, was arrested and told officers he had stolen the items to order.

Susan Grey, defending, said he wants change after taking drugs since he was 15.

He was given a one-year community order, nine months’ drug treatment and told to pay £220 in costs.
