A BURGLAR used a ladder to break into a flat.

The property, above the White Lion pub, in The Broadway, Houghton, was targeted at 9.40pm on Sunday.

The raider was disturbed by an occupant and was chased away through the pub.

It is unclear whether any property was stolen.

The burglar wore a balaclava, blue jeans and Berghaus jacket.

Detective Sergeant Henry Gustard, of Sunderland CID said: “We’re keen to hear from anyone who saw anyone using or carrying ladders on The Broadway on Sunday evening.”

He added: “They probably thought nothing of it at the time, but it could be they’ve witnessed the offender in the process of carrying out a burglary.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
