Sunderland AFC and Coventry City fans have been urged to behave at their next rival match after bad behaviour saw these fans banned.

More than 30,000 supporters are expected to head to the Stadium of Light for the League One fixture between the two teams on Saturday, November 23 at 3pm.

Liam Stokoe, 36, of Azalea Terrace North in Sunderland was handed a nine-month custodial suspended sentence for two years and a five-year football banning order after being convicted of public order offences and perverting the course of justice.

Declan Welch, 21, of Bink Moss in Washington was given a three-year football banning order after being convicted of a public order offence.

Mark Raffiee, 33, of Clarence Street in Seaham, was also given a three-year football banning order for his conviction of a public order offence.

Carl Breeze, 37, of Gladstone Street in Hebburn was also given a three-year football banning order after being convicted of a public order offence.

Brenainn Fudge, 18, of Westcoates in Coventry was another fan to be handed a three-year football banning order after being convicted of a public order offence.

Jordan Crump, 18, of Coombe Park Road also in Coventry received a three-year football banning order and a community order after also being convicted of a public order offence.

Chief Superintendent Sarah Pitt said: “We enjoy a fantastic relationship with football fans across the North East who are some of the most passionate fans anywhere in the country but when passions are high, as was the case in this particular fixture last season, a small minority of fans can get caught up in disorder and ruin the spectacle for others.”

The banning orders prevent these fans from attending any regulated football match in the UK until 2024. It also prevents them from travelling abroad to watch international matches.

Police have confirmed that the seventh man is currently subject to appeal on a date to be confirmed.
