Theft from Hotel Chocolat and stealing swimsuit among cases dealt with by magistrates in the latest court round-up

Syed Saggad Miah, 28, of the YMCA, Chester-le-Street, was jailed for 24 weeks after admitting a string of offences. He admitted three charges of driving whilst disqualified, three charges of driving without insurance, one charge of theft and a charge of failing to provide a specimen. He was ordered to pay a surcharge of £122 and banned from driving for three years.

Obed Gakwerere, 45, of St Michael’s Court, South Shields, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and a three-month curfew. He was banned from driving for four years and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £122 victim surcharge.

Susan Henderson, 63, of Lonnin Gardens, Chester-le-Street, pleaded guilty to six charges of shop theft including stealing food from Marks and Spencer, chocolate from Hotel Chocolat, and a swimsuit from House of Fraser. She was given a six-month community order, fined £300 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.

Lee Ranson Tweddle, 43, of Fawley Close, Boldon Colliery, was jailed for three months after he admitted driving whilst over the limit. He was banned from driving for five years and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £122 surcharge.

Anthony Bell, 31, of Ruislip Road, Sunderland, was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and given a 54-day curfew after admitting driving with excess alcohol. He was banned from driving for 54 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £122 surcharge.

Reece Harvey, 24, of Astral House, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to stealing two televisions. He was given a 12-month community order and told to pay £560 in compensation and a £90 surcharge.

Michael Russell, 29, of Reed Avenue, Hebburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was fined £450 and ordered to pay compensation of £139.99. He as also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £45 surcharge.
