A MOTHER who was jailed for biting off her partner’s testicle has been back in court after the pair rekindled their romance.

Maria Topp hit the headlines for biting off Martin Douglas’ testicles last year.

She was back in court after her ex-lover told police she had breached her restraining order to stay away from him, even though they had rekindled their relationship.

Mr Douglas, 45, required emergency surgery to re-attach his scrotum after the drunken assault by Topp.

She admitted unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm as her trial before a Newcastle Crown Court jury was about to start last October. She was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, plus a restraining order which banned her from contacting him again.

However, a “chance encounter” led to a rekindling of the romance, Newcastle magistrates heard during her latest appearance in court.

Topp, 45, had a “friendly” chat with her former lover, then sent him a text to ask: “Do you still love me?”, before they got back together.

But she says she felt like it was a “stab in the back” when Mr Douglas reported her to the police after their second relationship ended.

Topp pleaded guilty to a breach of the restraining order, was fined £150, ordered to pay a £15 surcharge from her £40.50-a-week JobSeekers’ Allowance.
