A 17-year-old boy who was left with serious head injuries after a fight outside a Sunderland gym remains in a stable condition 11 days after the disturbance.

Police were alerted by the ambulance service following a report of a suspected assault, with the man arrested released under investigation as inquiries continue.

The car park of the gym, which has been closed during the lockdown, was sealed off as investigations began.

A force spokesperson said: “It was reported that a 17-year-old male had suffered serious head injuries following a fight with another teenager believed to be known to him."
