Teenager arrested in Sunderland on suspicion of wounding.

Police have arrested a teenager following an assault in Sunderland.

It happened between 11.15pm and 11.30pm, on Saturday, March 28, on Tanfield Road.

The 17-year-old victim was approached by a group of youths in the street before being assaulted.

He received two minor puncture wounds as a result for which he was treated at Sunderland Royal Hospital before being released.

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH. He is currently helping police with enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Nick Lawrance, from Northumbria Police’s Major Crime Team, said: “We are urging anyone who witnessed this assault or believes they have information to assist our investigation to come forward.

“This appears to have been a dispute between people known to each other and I’d like to reassure people that we have made an arrest.

“We have officers patrolling in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to them.”

Detectives are carrying out enquiries into the assault and are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information.
